Primary Functions

  1. Enforcement of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Prevention Code
  2. Investigation to determine origin and cause of all fires that occur in the Fire District
  3. Providing Public Fire Safety Education programs to the residents of the Fire District
  4. Responding to Fire and Emergency Incidents in the district to assist with fire suppression, coordination and investigation of the incident

State Fire Code Required Permits

The New Jersey State Fire Code requires a permit for may operations. Some of the more common required permits are listed below.

  1. Permit for Temporary Use of Propane for Cooking operations Example - Cooking at a Festival, Fair, Special Events, Etc. Inspection is REQUIRED, and the permit my be applied for in advance.   2. Permit for use of any type of open flame device to seal a roof Example - Roofing contractor installing or repairing a roof. Inspection is REQUIRED, and the permit must be applied for in advance. As part of the application process, a pre-event meeting is required by this office. This meeting is to identify the date, times, and type of event, and to provide the event sponsor with the proper fire safety guidelines for the event.

Smoke Detector/Carbon Monoxide Detector Alarm and Portable Fire Extinguisher Compliance Certification

Under the New Jersey State Fire Prevention Code an inspection is required to verify smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector compliance prior to the sale or rental of any residential property.

In summary, a Smoke Detector is required on each level of the residence and in the area of all bedrooms along with a minimum of one carbon monoxide detector is required in the sleeping area. In addition, a minimum of a 2-A:10B:C MAXIMUM of a 10 lb ABC fire extinguisher shall be mounted in the vicinity of the kitchen.

This inspection must be scheduled in advance through our office. The amount of the fee is based on how many days before the closing or occupancy that the inspection is scheduled. The current fee varies between $35.00 if the appointment is 10 days prior to closing and $125 for inspections scheduled less than 4 days prior to closing.

  3. Battery smoke detectors installed where 100-Volt hardwired detectors are required.
